  • School: Day 1

i awoke this morning alone on a cold twin bed.  my own had progressivly gotten more crowded throught the night, and sometime very late (or very early) i had given up and moved to into megan's empty bed where i knew i would at least have a chance for some sleep and little chance of suffication.  michael was the first one up (i believe it was 7:30) and as i was laying in bed waiting for the alarm to go off, i followed him down to the kitchen.  he ate while i cleaned up the kitchen.  he was utterley excited.  he had done his chores, eaten his breakfast, gotten dressed, and was ready to go before megan even rolled out of bed (around 8:00).  the princess finally descended for her own breakfast, wardrobe change, and off we headed for our first day of school.

upon entering the school building, michael took my hand and said, "mommy, my heart is beating really fast!"...it was adorable.   the kids immediatly broke one of the five rules we had earlier rehearsed.  "walking feet" they sprinted to their classrooms, only to be turned out by their teachers who told them that they were to wait for the bell.  i realized this must be why all the other parents were standing around in the lobby :)  (hey, i've never been to school, so i wasn't really aware of the whole bell thing either)  when the bell did ring, they did much better.  we WALKED very quickly to our rooms.  i took michael to his and megan waited by her door.  michael put his bookbag away on the hook, and seemed to do great.  i went to get megan settled.  megan asked her teacher when the candy parade was going to take place and when they were going to pet the turtle.  (michael's room has a turtle...megan's does not)  the teacher told her that maybe she could get candy for a party later, and that maybe the teacher would get some insects from the park over the weekend.

anyway, i headed back over to michael's class to say goodbye.  it was funny to see all the random things the kids did during prayer.  there was the kids who kept asking questions for it's duration.  the child who got up and walked around the room.  the girls who were hitting each other with the placemats.  michael, for his part, sat in his chair and sucked on his fingers.  (shocking i know)  i gave him a hug and kiss and peeked in on megan's class on my way back out.  she had dragged a chair to the wall (right behind one of the teachers backs) and was taking things off of the bulliten board.

when i went to pick them up at the end of the day, megan looked quite frazzled.  she had her thumb in her mouth and was looking espically unhappy.   megan's teacher pulled me aside.  i was told that megan had basically had a flailing (not sure how else to describe it) when she was asked to do something (share?) and i needed to go over the rules with her some more...most espically the "keep your hands to yourself" one, and if she behaved in this way again, she would be sent to the principles office.  michael was, of chourse, good as gold.  when we got to the car, megan told me her teachers beat her (obviously a fabrication...espically as i gather it was she who was doing the beating :), and michael said he was too sick to go back to school tomorrow.  (turns out he definatly felt a bit hot and has a stuffy/runny nose...also a lovley symptom i have picked up as of this morning as well.)  so that's how it went.  not sure how we'll make it through day two.  megan doens't go back until wednsday.  (labor day...not expulsion) but michael has two more days this week...assuming he's not more sick in the morning.  here's pics from this morning...  good times.  good times

They have grown SO much since December! I cannot believe it! They sure look like twins.

I hope that Megs starts to enjoy school a bit more! It is quite a change for them both.

I'll pray every day for the teachers and the principal!  The pics are just adorable!  Don't forget to go over the RULES again just for good measure.
